APPROACH
My approach to design starts from the urban design scale and contextual appraisal.
I am enthusiastic about truly sustainable design. I have a strong commitment to facilitating and encouraging stakeholder participation.
Close to 40 years experience.
I have extensive technical knowledge to inform my design proposals and I am thereby able to quickly and accurately assess any project identifying merits and risks.
I am proud of the fact that a high proportion of my design work has been built
Nearly 2,000 completed new dwellings and more than 3,000 completed refurbished dwellings. At least 50% of the dwellings I have worked on were affordable tenure units and all were carried out with a high degree of resident choice and participation.

Developing, and managing systems for quality control and checking of all the design and technical drawing output for compliance and durability
covering a wide range of building types which have included Academies, Primary schools, health centres, community buildings and supermarkets as well as major new residential schemes.
CLIENTS
In addition to working directly for Local Authorities and various Housing Associations and other housing providers I have particular experience of working for developer clients such as Barratt, Kier, Skanska, Berkley Homes, St James, United House, Galiford Try and Lovell all of whom had particular and exacting standards for documentation and detail quality control. This experience has given me familiarity with and an extensive ability to produce design audits and compliance reports ensuring compliance with Employers Requirements, Building Regulations and Planning Conditions plus other relevant legislation and standards such as Housing Quality Indicators, Design for Life, accessibility criteria such as Lifetime Homes and sustainability audits such as BREAAM .
Nearly all my work has involved consultation directly with end-users incorporating a high degree of individual choices, collective consultations and complex phasing to work best around residents in-place for their needs and for their aspirations.
The best measure of sucess being to not just give them what they wanted but to give them something they never dreamed they could have.
HISTORY
Sprunt 17.5 yrs ( April 1994 – September 2011)
As Technical Director I had responsibility for quality control of the entire office design output from approx 45 technical staff in 3 teams with a fee turnover topping £5.5m in 2008.
I regularly reviewed all of the output from each project with the in-house teams at Sprunt acting as both manager and mentor for each Team Leader.
I joined the firm in April 1994 when the company had about 10 technical staff. I was recruited to bring my estates regeneration construction detailing and contract management experience to an estate regeneration project at Pepys Estate, Lewisham particularly to the two 26 storey tower blocks which were being extensive refurbished with tenants in place including overcladding in an aluminium rainscreen panel system.
I carried out Sprunts first D+B contractor commision in 1996, and from 1999 to 2007 I was Housing Team Leader in charge of a team of up to 18 architectural staff managing a turnover of over £2.5m in fee income per annum
I have since early days been influential in most of Sprunts new build housing and regeneration schemes and helped develop Sprunt’s in –house capacity and methodology for delivering both new and refurbishment solutions all the way through RIBA design stages from A to L for the widest possible range of clients and scales of project. In so doing I contributed in a major way to the development of the practice from about 10 persons when I joined to a peak around 100 staff prior to the financial down turn of 2008 onwards
